How are delegations formed / Is there an application deadline?
Delegates will be placed into delegations based on the date of enrollment and
acceptance into the program. In addition to secure and maintain your confirmed
space in the delegation, you will need to keep current with your scheduled
tuition payments.
When will departure dates be announced?
Departure dates are often given at the information meeting. If a departure date
was not announced at the information meeting you attended, departure dates will
be released at 180 to 150 days prior to departure (approximately between
December 20, 2008, and February 1, 2009). Due to airline industry changes and
routing restructures the departure dates are again confirmed at approximately 60
days prior to departure with the release of the air itineraries.
When will local delegation formation be finalized?
For delegates who enroll in the fall of 2008, the local delegation will be
finalized shortly after the information meeting. Once a local delegation is
finalized, the delegation roster—including assigned teacher leaders—will be
posted on OnBoard. Orientation meetings for the local delegation will begin
60-70 days after the local information meeting. Enrollments received after
December will be placed in delegations on a space-available basis. Please note:
In order to secure and maintain a place in a delegation, students must keep
current with their scheduled tuition payments.
What are national delegations?
National delegations are delegations that are formed with students and leaders
from around the United States. National delegations often journey to more exotic
destinations, and may travel during winter and spring breaks instead of summer.
On all national delegations, students who have participated in the past (People
to People alumni) do have application priority. For our winter and spring
programs, national delegations are standard; during the summer, they are more
limited. Leaders for national delegations are typically our most experienced
leaders and many also serve as area directors who train, recruit, and manage
other leaders in their area.
What is a Delegation Formation for Independent Travelers?
Independent travelers are students who travel in national delegations or who
join a delegation originating outside of their area. Independent travelers can
have one of the most memorable experiences, as they meet students and educators
from around the nation and world. As an independent traveler, students will
enjoy a unique experience prior to travel, including phone or online interviews,
online training, and online communication with their delegation.
Approximately six weeks prior to travel, independent travelers will receive
their final information in the mail, including travel gear and airline tickets.
