Student and Leader Insurance

Insurance for Students

What type of insurance is included in the tuition?
All Student Ambassadors are covered by a basic group insurance plan that helps offset costs if a major injury is incurred during travel. This insurance is included in the program tuition and helps cover the cost of emergency evacuations and hospitalization, and is primary during travel. BerkelyCare administers the Student Ambassador insurance plans. Families will receive complete information on the insurance coverage options in a tuition statement.

Can you explain the People to People Delegate Protection Plan (optional insurance)?
The Delegate Protection Plan is an additional insurance option that provides additional medical coverage to the standard group plan; this coverage is primary during travel. The Protection Plan also covers lost luggage and lost property, along with trip delays, interruptions, or cancellations. In addition, the Protection Plan protects families from the fees incurred if a student must withdraw prior to departure due to illness, injury, or the loss of a family member.

The cost of the plan is $245. Student Ambassadors are automatically registered for this additional insurance upon enrollment; coverage may be declined up to 120 days before departure. Complete details on the Delegate Protection Plan will be included in an upcoming tuition statement.

Insurance for Leaders

Can you explain the People to People Leader insurance?
A Medical Protection Plan is provided at no extra charge for all delegates, leaders, coaches, and athletic directors who are U.S. and Canadian residents. The Medical Protection Plan covers sickness and accident expense coverage related to the program (ambulance, hospital stay, dental, and prescription drugs). The baggage delay and baggage loss plan covers baggage delay and loss reimbursement (when bag is delayed more than 24 hours).

Is there an optional leader insurance that covers more?
Yes, optional coverage may be purchased by leaders, coaches, and athletic directors who are residents of the U.S. or Canada. The optional insurance covers the post departure part of your program. The Post-Departure Travel Protection Plan provides additional sickness and accident coverage, as well as additional baggage delay or loss coverage. You can view the details of the plan here. The cost is $40 and must be specifically requested by completing and returning the registration form located on your leader site.
