Preparing for a Student Ambassador journey
How does my child get a passport?

Anyone traveling internationally requires a passport.

Obtaining a passport takes approximately six to eight weeks.

The fee is $70 for students under age 16, and $85 for students 16 or older.

To obtain a passport for your child, simply:

  • Download an application at www.travel.state.gov, or pick one up at your local post office

  • Obtain four identical passport photos. These are available at most professional photography stores

  • Secure a certified birth certificate and two forms of photo ID

  • Bring the completed passport application, the four passport photos, birth certificate and photo IDs, in person, to a local post office or local office of the federal government for processing. DO NOT sign the passport application, as the passport agent must witness the signature

Back
The Student Ambassador journey begins long before departure.

You and your child will attend four two-hour orientation meetings to prepare during the months before the delegation embarks on the Student Ambassador journey.

In addition to learning the details of the journey and the destination, your family will meet fellow delegates and their families. You will get to know your area delegation leaders and observe how they supervise the delegates. For many Student Ambassadors, lifelong friendships begin at the very first meeting.

Count on these informative, interactive orientation meetings to help you:

  • Learn about the culture and history of your child's destination
  • Find out just what to pack
  • Review all air and land travel details
  • Answer any other questions you or your child may have about the journey
  • Meet delegation leaders and see them in action
