Preparing for a Student Ambassador journey
What should my child wear?

As an enrolled Student Ambassador, your child will receive a People to People polo shirt to wear with khaki pants on program travel days or when meeting government officials.

Well before departure your child will be informed of any special clothing or gear needs relating to the program activities or destination climate. During the journey, the delegation leaders will provide clothing guidelines each evening, if needed, for the following day.

We recommend that your child pack the following apparel for the journey:

2 pairs of khaki pants
1 pair dress pants (or a skirt for women)
1 pair jeans
1-3 pairs of walking shorts
Men: 1 tie, 1 belt, 1 dress shirt, and 4-6 nice casual shirts
Women: 1 formal top, 4-6 nice casual tops
1-2 long-sleeved casual shirts
1 sweater, fleece, or sweatshirt
7-9 changes of underwear and socks
1 pair comfortable dress shoes (no high heels)
1 pair comfortable walking shoes
Waterproof medium-weight jacket
Sleepwear
Swimsuit and towel

The Student Ambassador journey begins long before departure.

You and your child will attend four two-hour orientation meetings to prepare during the months before the delegation embarks on the Student Ambassador journey.

In addition to learning the details of the journey and the destination, your family will meet fellow delegates and their families. You will get to know your area delegation leaders and observe how they supervise the delegates. For many Student Ambassadors, lifelong friendships begin at the very first meeting.

Count on these informative, interactive orientation meetings to help you:
  • Learn about the culture and history of your child's destination
  • Find out just what to pack
  • Review all air and land travel details
  • Answer any other questions you or your child may have about the journey
  • Meet delegation leaders and see them in action
