The Teacher Leader Role:- Responsible for the safety of the attending student leaders
- Manage and supervise 12-14 assigned student leaders
- Assist in the delivery of scheduled itinerary and ensure the educational development of student leaders
- Report to and receive guidance and direction from the teacher leader
- Maintain professional relationship with student leaders and other teacher
leaders
Pre-Leadership Programs Expectations:- Read through the
teacher leader’s guide and curriculum materials before arrival
- Complete any training required by the program office
- Arrive on-site 2 days prior to student arrival
- Room with another teacher leader during the week
- Participate fully in all training sessions
- Demonstrate the ability to participate in all program activities including walking
5-8 miles per day over uneven terrain and in various weather conditions
Student Leader Programs Expectations:- Ensure understanding of program curriculum
- Attend on-site training
- Maintain the standards of behavior as explained in training and in the
teacher leader's guide
- Evaluate student leaders’ completion of the curriculum prior to end of program
- Lead small group discussions with assigned student leaders
- Address and document medical/health related issues including securing treatment if needed and counseling homesickness
- Refrain from use of alcoholic beverages during the program
- Be friendly and accessible to your student leaders and co-teacher leaders
- Participate fully in all program activities and nightly teacher leader meetings
- Be available and responsive throughout each day’s scheduled activities (our days can be as long as 12-14 hours)
- Be willing to accept assignment deviations as required to ensure overall program success – flexibility is crucial
- Work in partnership with your co-teacher leaders to ensure a positive experience for the student leaders
- Be willing to mentor and share ideas with your co-teacher leaders regarding group management, leading effective meetings and student behavior management
- Cooperate fully with on-site staff
- Place needs of the student leaders first
- Assist in enforcing safety measures for our student leaders
- Consistently model positive and appropriate behavior for student leaders
- Be available to stay longer or return early if circumstances require
- Agree to room with another teacher leader during the week
Student Leader Programs Timeline:
Once processed by the program office, applications are forwarded to a program representative who is responsible for interviewing and recommending
teacher leaders for assignment as enrollments allow. We have
